Best Retirement States-Choosing Where to Retire
As
the baby boomers age, there are more retirees, and a lot want a
diverse and exciting retirement. The issue of retirement brings with
it a vast amount of choices, where to live is dictated usually by
the type of activities retirees wish to do. Here are the five of the
top towns in the best retirement states recommended for facilities,
activities and of course housing price and tax breaks according to
money magazine.
Washinton–Walla
Walla is the top choice for Washington. It may be a little out of the
way but retirees are enjoying an enriched lifestyle here. The three
colleges have become popular for music, lectures and learning among
retirees.
Georgia–St
Simons Island is the place retirees are heading for the idyllic sea
change lifestyle. Seven months of warm weather a year is hard to pass
up despite the threat of possible hurricanes. Fine dining and
galleries abound.
Arizona–Prescott
is a great choice for those loving the outdoor life. The Prescott
National Forest and Watson Lake offer perfect camping, hiking and
boating options. The humble picnic is compulsory here. Along with
fine arts and restaurants there are three hospitals and a new adult
center.
Michigan–Holland
is charming with it’s Dutch inspired buildings and feel of the past
connecting with the present. Summer has activities aplenty on the
inland lake and with sidewalks and streets that heat to melt the
snow, winter comfort is well taken care of. 25 minutes away from
Grand Rapids, how can you go wrong?
Virginia–Williamsburg
must be considered for that relaxed living many crave in retirement.
But don’t let the British colonial feel fool you, there are plenty of
modern conveniences. All within an hour’s drive you have three
airports and seven hospitals. Golfing is pretty much year round on
the 15 courses available.
So
these are the recommended places, but where are retirees actually
heading? Here are the ten most popular communities:
1.Asheville,
NC
2.Paris,
TN
3.Old
Saybrook, CT
4.Oxford,
OH
5.Sarasota,
FL
6.Halifax,
Nova Scotia
7.Prescott,
AZ
8.Green
Valley, AZ
9.Athens,
GA
10.Winston-Salem,
NC
Some
of these places may seem surprising as they are small and perhaps not
the immediate choice. Much of this may be attributed to the buzz
about a place. Retirees hear good things and want to check it out.
But many other places are now competing for the retirement dollar so
expect to here about more places. Towns are also offering tax breaks
and bait, ensuring good health facilities and plenty of activities to
suit every lifestyle.
Many
at retirement age have no intentions of actually retiring. They are
going to places where they can enjoy a small business of their own
and often get involved in small vineyards or cafes.
Whatever
type of life is preferred, there will be a good number of choices
available. Some time spent comparing options will be well spent.
